This consultation has concluded.
Hamilton's reputation as an ‘events city’ is growing with events like the ITM 400 Hamilton, Balloons over Waikato and Fieldays, soon to be complemented by national and international events hosted by Claudelands.
To build on this sucess it will be important to make sure our facilities operate well and that the city has the ideal conditions to stage sucessful local, regional and national events.
It is also important that our community facities continue to serve the needs of our communties.

What are the best areas to put on events in Hamilton?

A range of events are held in Hamilton, from international events to school fairs. Events have a lot of benefits for the city. They increase the number of tourists and amount of money spent at local businesses and contribute to the overall vibrancy of the city.
But events can also have a lot of negative impacts. Some events are noisy, others generate increases in traffic and parking.
What do you think the best areas are for staging events in Hamilton? What areas can handle events? What areas can't?

What are the big issues? The first stage of the District Plan is now complete. In it we asked you to help us identify what significant resource management issues were facing Hamilton 28 February 2010 What options could we use to address them? Right now we are looking at what options we can use to address Hamilton's significant resource management issues. At this stage we have developed a map called a Spatial Framework to help you get a big picture of what those options could look like if they were put in place across the city. We have developed a range of options and indicated what our thinking is so far on how they could address issues in the city. As part of this process we will be asking all stakeholders what they think about how these options could form a new District Plan. The deadline for public comments is 29 October 2010. 29 October 2010 Drafting the Plan. Early in the New Year we will publicly confirm the options to take forward. A proposed District Plan based on these options will be prepared. 01 February 2011 What do you think about the Plan? In early 2012, the proposed District Plan will be notified. This is when you will be asked what you think about the new District Plan for Hamilton. 01 February 2012 -
